I just joined and am still finding my way around the website. I am a plank owner and shell back, served on King from pre-commissioning until hitch up in the summer of 1962. I came across the website when searching for information about the missile destroyer in port for Fleet Week in San Francisco. Sure is a different Navy than the one I was in.

Jerry Cook, WD Division. I was in on the Commissioning and became a Shellback on the shakedown cruise.

According to the Cruise Book it looks like you were in the WD Division, is that right? I was a Missile Gunner in the WM Division, from 1960 till 1962 also.

Ron,

Only members have access to the full database. If you are looking for someone or a small group specificaly, I will try to help you out. This is the only way that the Webmaster and the association has to safeguard our shipmates privacy.

Once you become a member, and log into the database, you will be able to modify your profile and make your data not available to anyone except for Administration pur[poses.

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to email me at: nesb7870@bellsouth.net

Ron,

We currently have contact information on 137 shipmates from the time you were aboard. Of those, 46 are currently members of the King Association.

Our Database shows you coming aboard in 1960, is this correct?  Huh

  Grin
I was on the king on the frist day she sit sail in Washington and after all these years I have wondered where all the plankowner's are and what they could be doing. If anyone has been on her in the times of 1961 to 1963 I would sure like to hear from you. I still can see the day we all began shell backs what a day.
