I had a chance to speak with CAPT S. R. Woodall (Ret.) the other day and I thought I would pass some things along. He was very proud of the King and said he has fond memories of her. We talked about the Engineering Department and how we could “go to full power at will…That gold Battle E was no accident”. I think the crew summed it up – “Go Fast, No Smoke”! We talked about the Med ’86 cruise (which I’ll have more on that later) and quite a bit about the top notch crew we had. I remember a lot of hard work, but that ship was ready for anything. I also received a bio from him which I also hope to get to our webmaster soon. A lot of other names came up such as Don Pearsall, Lyle Davidson, John Barry, and Frank Fries (among others). I’m sure I’ll be talking to him again and I’ll be posting more sea stories on the site.
