The USS King [DLG-10/DDG-41] Association has taken on an exciting project. We are proposing to have an Arleigh Burke Class Guided Missile Destroyer be named after Fleet Admiral Ernest J. King. We would like to see Fleet Admiral King’s legacy and our legacy as King Sailors, live on.

Read a Forward by Admiral of the Fleet Ernest J. King, USN as published in "Battle Stations! Your Navy in Action" from 1946.
I CAN best stress the importance of the U. S. Navy to the American people when I state that without sea power on our side the United States would never have become a nation......More |

other fellow's blows. The winner hits and keeps on hitting even though
he has to be able to take some stiff blows in order to keep on hitting.” Ernest

Although we can’t relive what has been, we can relive through those that take our places at the helm, engine room, mess hall, CIC, etc. We have pride in the ship we served so faithfully even though it is gone. We would like to feel we left a legacy to fulfill, a Naval tradition, with respect for the sea and one another.

The
only way we can make this happen is by letting the Secretary
know that there are a number of people who would like to see Fleet
Admiral
King’s legacy and our legacy as King Sailors, live on. |
