Colors

William Robert White (1915-2003)

It' s 8 o'clock, a whistle blows
A bugle does resound,
The Flag is hoisted briskly on
Flag Poles all around.

The Ensign's hoisted to the peak
The Guard stands at Salute
All traffic stops, no one should move
For all should follow suit.

Naval Custom does decree,
Whenever this takes place
Civilians, as with Servicemen
Toward the music face.

Again at Evening colors,
When the Sun has set
By all who love this flag of ours
This honor has been set.

And Servicemen on sea and shore,
At Quarters, and Retreat
Still feel a thrill to see our Flag
Honored by a salute.
