Robert E. Williams, Jr.

CDR Robert E. Williams, Jr. received his commission and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from the U. S. Naval Academy in 1972.

Upon completion of nuclear propulsion training he served on the USS SOUTH CAROLINA (CGN-37), first as the Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer, then as Electrical Officer. Following a tour as an NROTC Instructor at the University of Virginia, he served in USS ENTERPRISE (CVN-65) as Electrical Officer, USS MISSISSIPPI (CGN-40) as Operations Officer, and USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN-69) as Reactor Officer.

CDR Williams reports to USS KING (DDG-41) from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey where he earned a Master of Science degree in financial management.

CDR Williams’ personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal and the Navy Achievement Medal.

CDR Williams is married to the former Gail Ann Murphy of Falls Church, VA. They have three children: Mike, Rob, and Jennifer. The Williams family currently resides in Virginia Beach, VA.

After decommissioning King, CAPT Williams went to the Naval Sea Systems Command where he served in various assignments. He retired from the position of Program Manager, PMS 325, Support Ships, Boats and Craft in June of 1997.

After cruising the Caribbean on a sailboat with his wife for a year, CAPT Williams went to Colorado to work for Kaiser-Hill assisting in the cleanup and decommissioning of Rocky Flats, a former Department of Energy nuclear weapons production facility.

CAPT Williams then went to Thurso, Caithness, Scotland to begin work helping the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority accelerate the decommissioning of one of their nuclear facilities, Dounreay.
