USS King Command Histories
In 1952, the Chief of Naval Operations first directed commissioned ships to write an annual history. Over the years specific guidance for writing histories has been developed and issued. All U. S. Navy ships are required to submit their Command History, including a Narrative from the Commanding Officer.
The official command history submissions are reproduced here exactly as they were written by the Commanding Officers with the exception of obvious typographical corrections.
Command History reports for the latter half of 1962 and all of 1963 were not in the records at the Naval Historical Center.
Command History reports were not submitted during AAW Modernization from the end of 1974 through the beginning of 1977.
