After reading over the guestbook there are many names that ring clear,
and photo's of faces that I knew well.
It was Master-At-Arms GM1 Armstrong, who retrived my finger when it became
seprated from hand when it was caught in the knife edge and seal of a deck
hatch/fwd refeer,03/08/'65. Doc Bell, Thanks. And,to thoes Officers who
were in the Mess Hall, when I came running thru and yelled, "make-a-hole" a
few times before plowing right thru them and putting one or two on there
butts
on my way to Corpmans Office. Many, many more stories!

I come to this page often and can never forget the fond memories of serving
on the USS King DDG-41. I guess the longer your away you tend to only remmeber
the best of times and all the new experiences of visiting a foreign country
for the first time. Going through the guest book looking for people I knew
I discovered just how many people I didn't/don't remember. I just wanted
to say thanks to you all for doing such a great job and keeping us all
safe. And to Mike Holley I just wanted to appologize for all those rude
comments I made when you re-enlisted to make ET2 because you couldn't pass
the advancement exam. who am I to judge. Did you ever get your equipment
up to 50% operational? Thats right you did when Mike Ware came aboard and
rode your ass... LOL JK your a alright guy I just got pissed the day you
climbed out of your rack and stepped on my friggin head !!!!

Greetings,
It
has been brought to my attention that while surfing the internet looking
for the last door to open. This web site tumbled out of the crevasse
and low and behold it had the list of shipmates. The last door which
is supposed to give an individual all the answers to life's great questions
like those listed below.
Where
in the world is that selectee?
Why does he think he can do it that today when yesterday it wasn't an option
on the table?
Who retired or died and made an opening for him to get selected?
Can he make it all the way to the pinning ceremony and be on time?
These
are the question being pondered by the great minds all across the great
world tonight.
Although
I have contacted some of those seeing this posting. I have been lack
in contacting everyone.
I
wish I could participate in transition training with each and every
one of the former chiefs from a great command because each one would
teach me a different valuable lesson. My transition training will be
conducted on active duty with command I am mobilized to COMNAVELSF
in Williamsburg, VA.
This
great moment in my naval reserve career to be seleceted to the last
class of naval personnel to be Disbursing Clerk Chief Petty Office
would not be posible had it not been for the great friends and shipmates
on board King so many years ago. The great minds also say that with
a great foundation you can accomplish many things in life. My career
foundation was layed on the deckplates of KIng and have carried through
the many years in between.
Currently
on mobilization which has happend over the las three years if the schedule
permitd would love to be at the next reunion.

I still remember coming over the hill in San Diego overlooking the harbor
and you could always pick out the KING from afar because she was the one
listing to starboard even in port.
I
also remember planting the Jackson Buoy. Ship's crew rigged a buoy
with reflective vanes on it and it was planted at North SAR and was
used to maintain station.

I was being transferred from the USNS Taluga, a merchant ship to the USS
King DLG-10. During the transfer, via helicopter, a filpino CPO was killed.
I was then assigned the A/C & refigeration gang in M division. In late
1972, the King was in combat mode off the coast of Da Nang, Vietnam. For
43 days my GQ station was in the forward emergency diesel generator room,
which was right under the 5" gun. Perhaps one reason I have hearing
loss. The crew at the time I served was very close with lots of respect
for one another. I attended the 2002 reunion in San Diego but missed last
year. I hope to attend this year.

golf, Rehm dropping a URT-23 on his foot, making holes in the VACAPES every
week, Blackford sentenced to eternal MDMAA duty, flooding in UHF1, Lenninger
hallucinating on Jaegermeister in Haakensvorn, SNFL 2-90, Bluenose, lots
of great shipmates.

I was a missile gunner...Terrier magazine, launcher and launcher machinery
room. Got aboard in Nov. 1960. From Fort Worth, Texas. Went on shakedown
cruise from Bremerton to Long Beach, to San Diego, to Pearl, to the equator,
back to Pearl, then returned to San Diego.
Does anyone remember the ASROC tryout with a US Navy sub and the sub returning
to San Diego with the dummy ASROC embedded and sticking out of the conning
tower?

remember that happening once and it wasn't intentional. I'd like a higher

Gents,
I
need a copy of the division photos with the names across the bottom
from the 70-71, 84 and 86 cruise books. There are no books after 86.
Would GREATLY appreciate all the guys after 84 if they would send me
lists of everyone they can think of to help fill this last void in
the database.
There
was a 91 decom book in the making: The guy putting the book together
ran off with the monies collected and ran only to jail.
